the city that never sleeps

4/21/15

beaming from head to toe,

anxiety filling every inch of me.

something about it, still,

after all these years,

mesmerizes and excites me

into a state of pure glee.

but when we arrive, I have to put

my serious face on.

lights and towers and buildings

tall enough to touch the sky.

hustling and bustling;

no one has time

to stop and chat.

too much to do,

not enough time;

even without sleep,

there are too few hours

in a day.

my life is represented

by this city.

Not enough time to accomplish

everything.

Sleep is a second priority.

I understand.

the city that doesn’t sleep

is all around me;

I am a part of it.

And it is a part of me.
